The Role of Bexar County Clerk
Bexar County Clerk is an elected Constitutional Officer, who serves a four-year term. The Clerk's responsibilities are assigned by the Constitution as well as Texas state statute and local laws. As an impartial county officer, the Clerk provides some of the most important checks-and-balances in county government. The County Clerk serves as the official custodian of records and the County Treasurer. Responsibilities include:
- Safegaurding property records and wills
- Issuing birth certificates, assumed business names, and licenses
- Handling the caseloads of the civil, criminal, and probate courts
- Supporting the Commissioners' Court, Justices of the Peace, and the Sheriff's Office
- Managing probate fees, unclaimed funds, and Federal tax liens
